You cannot use Facebook because your linked Instagram account is disabled error fix

You cannot use Facebook because your linked Instagram account is disabled

An Instagram account can be blocked for any reason. It might be you are crossing the following/unfollowing limit, or you are using any third-party application that did something wrong etc. Even for some people, it gets disabled without any reason !

And the problem gets bigger if your Facebook account is linked to Instagram. Your Facebook account also might get disabled.

How to know that?

You will get the following message :

Your Account has been disabled

You cannot use Facebook because your linked Instagram account username is disabled. Activity on username goes against Instagram’s Community Guidelines or other standards. If you think your accounts were disabled by mistake, you can request a review of the decision on Instagram. To find out more visit the Instagram Help Center.

It also includes a button Visit Instagram Help Center.

For enabling the account, you have to contact Instagram team and you need to fill a form.

Request for Instagram account reactivation:

Facebook provides a form that we have to fill to request for verification. Fill this form only if your account is deactivated. There is no time limit by when you will get it back. Normally, you will get a reply within a couple of working days.

This form requires you to fill your full name, your email address, Instagram username, your phone number and the reason why you are appealing the decision to deactivate the account. Keep this information ready.

If you have multiple email addresses and you forgot which email you used in your Facebook or Instagram account, you can search for emails from Facebook or Instagram in your inboxes.

Step 1: Open the form:

Open this link on any browser. You can use Google Chrome or any browser on your phone or you can open it on your laptop/desktop computer.

You will see one form something like below:

Instagram account deactivation form

This screenshot is taken on a laptop browser. On your phone, the style might look a little bit different.

Step 2: Fill the form:

  • For the Full name, enter your name.
  • For the email address, enter your email address that is associated with your Instagram account. Make sure to get the exact email address as I have explained above.
  • For the username, enter the Instagram username. For example, if you can visit your Instagram page with instagram.com/blah, then blah is your username.
  • The mobile number field is to enter your mobile number.
  • The last field is to enter why you are appealing. Make sure not to leave this field blank. Explain properly if you think it was hacked or if you haven’t violated any community guideline and it was disabled mistakenly. You can actually write an essay on this field but write it briefly.

Step 3: Wait for the response from Instagram:

Once you are done filling the form, hit the send button to send the appeal. Now, wait for a response from them. If you are lucky, you will get it within a couple of hours, or you will have to wait for a few days.

Photo verification:

If your account was disabled for some faulty bot, it will be reactivated and you will get one email that it is reactivated successfully.

In some cases, they want to verify your photo, i.e. they want to check if the appeal is from the real owner of this account or not. In this case, you will get one email that will ask for an image in the following format:

  • You will get one code in the mail
  • Take a clean sheet of paper, write down the code followed by your full name and username.
  • Take the photo with your face uncovered and both of your hands holding the sheet.
  • Make sure that the photo is not blurry and take it in a good lighting environment.

These steps are also mentioned in the mail. Please go through the full email if anything else is required from you. For example, you might need to provide different documents for business accounts.

Form for business accounts:

This is the link to another form. It is a little bit different than the previous one:

Instagram account reactivation business

You can provide verification of business by providing any of the following documents:

  • Local business license
  • Tax filing
  • Invoice
  • Certificate of Formation
  • Articles of Incorporation
  • Utility bill
  • Proof of domain name registration
  • Order fulfillment documentation

Click on the Choose File button to choose a photo of the document you want to send. This form is useful for business accounts.

Form to provide id doc:

There is another form that requires you to submit a government ID with the request. Facebook accepts government IDs or if you don’t have any government ids, you can also send two non-government IDs.

Go to this link to check the list of all government and non-government ids supported by Facebook/Instagram.

You can even send your Yearbook photo or School ID card as a non-government id.

You can also cover up any personal information those are not required for verification like address or license number. Click on the Choose Files button in the above form to upload the images, check the I understand I can’t get help with my account if I haven’t uploaded a valid ID checkbox and click on Send to send the request.

Form to verify your age:

You must be at least 13 years of age to have an Instagram account. If your account deactivation is related to age verification, you need to fill a form to verify that you are 13 years or older.

Go to this link to access the form.

You have to submit a photo ID that includes both your face and date of birth. This link has all the details of supported ids.

Fill the form, you can also fill any additional info in the form and click on the Send button to send the form.

Reason of Instagram account deactivation:

The most common reason of Instagram account deactivation is violation of community Guidelines. This is mentioned here.

You can go through the guidelines and check if you have violated any. Normally we don’t check or verify photos before uploading on social media. But, if someone reports your photo or if it is copyrighted, Instagram might deactivate your account.

But if someone got your credential and deleted the account or if you deleted your account, then there is no way to get it back.

Again, no system is perfect. Your account got disabled by mistake. If this is the case, you can rest assured that your account will be back.
